What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address. When you submit a piece, we collect the title, your first name, an optional pen name, your grade, the category, and the work itself (text or image). If you vote on a piece or a judge leaves feedback on your work, we store that too, tied to your account.

We do not ask for your last name, home address, school name, or phone number, and there is nowhere on the site to enter them.

What’s public

Published pieces show your first name (or pen name) and grade — nothing else. Your email is never shown publicly, never sold, and never shared with advertisers. There are no public comments, no public user profiles, and no way for one contributor to message another through the site.

Photos and uploaded art

Photos of artwork often carry hidden data, including the GPS location where the photo was taken. Every image uploaded to NextVox is automatically re-processed on our servers, which strips that hidden data before the file is ever stored.

Cookies & sign-in

NextVox uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in, set by our authentication provider (Supabase) when you log in. It exists only so you don’t have to sign in again on every visit — we don’t use it to track you around the web, and we don’t use any advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Because this cookie is strictly necessary for the site to function, it’s set automatically rather than behind a consent banner.

We also use Vercel Analytics to see how many people visit which pages. It reports aggregate numbers only — it doesn’t identify individual visitors or use tracking cookies.

Who we share information with

We don’t sell or rent anyone’s information. A small number of service providers process data on our behalf, only to keep the site running:

• ✓Supabase — our database, login system, and file storage
• ✓Vercel — hosts the website and provides the aggregate analytics above
• ✓Resend — delivers account-related emails, like sign-in links

Children’s privacy

NextVox is built for students in grades 1–12, which includes children under 13. We only collect what’s described above, and nothing more than what’s needed to review and publish a submission. If you’re a parent or guardian and want to review, correct, or delete your child’s information, contact us — see below — and we’ll take care of it directly, no forms required.

Deleting your account

Email us and we’ll delete your account and associated data. Pieces that were already published in an issue may be removed from public view, but back issues of the magazine are kept intact as a historical record — if that’s a concern, mention it in your email and we’ll work it out with you directly.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use NextVox after a change means you’re okay with the update.
